Born to the daughter of an actor and the son of a preacher, and growing up in a Bedfordshire house overlooking an airfield, Richard had performing in his blood and his eyes on the sky from the very start. After a close family member passed away in 2001, Richard threw himself into his poetry and songwriting and performed his first solo gig to a packed student bar at the end of the year. Richard, whilst studying literature in Bristol, then begins to record his songs with a group of friends at the University of Surrey. His lyrical talent and heart-stopping voice soon start to make waves further afield, with an invite to perform at a house party for Jimmy Page, and (after winning a national BBC songwriting award) opening for Robert Plant at a packed town hall in Kidderminster. Another two years on, and Richard hires out a church in his current home town of Canterbury to record a second EP. By this time the songwriter’s sound has developed into a soulful-yet-sophisticated mix of bittersweet and powerful lyrics and great melodies, all delivered over rich harmonies and gutsy double bass. Those early recordings, coupled with the breathtaking energy and atmosphere of his live shows, have won the songwriter a growing following and coverage on regional television and local, national and digital radio. As well as playing festivals, theatres, clubs and pubs across his home county of Kent, Richard’s gigs have included the coveted stages at Bush Hall, Water Rats and the Troubadour, not to mention the more intimate living rooms of the south coast’s house concert scene. Summer 2008… and Richard is writing, performing and recording brand new material, with a string of dates planned for the autumn. Armed with a soaring voice and songs which transport you out of the here and now, you might think that the songwriter has much in common with those aeroplanes he used to watch as a young boy. However, listen again to the stories within his lyrics – from the shattered love affair of Strange Ways to the lonely wanderings of Night Owl – and you will hear an artist with his feet firmly rooted in the earthy goings on of everyday life, singing songs that instantly connect, communicate and entertain. ‘Classy’ – Robert Plant ‘An outstanding performer, with a unique sound that moves from the epic soundtrack to the intimate with ease’ – Bern Leckie, Controller Chill Radio/ Core Radio ‘Deeply talented’ – Fiona Green, The Troubadour,
